Black Roots voit le jour en 1979 dans le quartier de Saint Paul, à Bristol en Angleterre. Le groupe est initialement composé de huit « youths » issus de la diaspora jamaïcaine. Parmi eux on retrouve 4 chanteurs qui assurent tour à tour le lead vocal ou les chœurs, une configuration rare et puissante ! En 1981, leur carrière décolle avec l’organisation de deux concerts à « prix libre ». Afin d’évoluer en toute indépendance ils créent leur label « Nubian » et produisent leur 1er maxi « Bristol Rock ». Après avoir sorti près d’un album par an pendant 10 ans, le groupe se sépare en 1993. En 2004, Makasound fait redécouvrir Black Roots au public français avec la compilation « On the Frontline », le coup de cœur est là, le groupe se reforme et fait sa première apparition en France lors du festival Zicalizes en 2011.
Black Roots revient ensuite avec « On the Ground » (2012), « Ghetto Feel » (2014) et « Son of a man » (2016). Des albums tout aussi puissants que leurs tubes historiques qui nous prouvent que les Black Roots sont toujours prêts à effondrer les murs de la dite Babylone ! Toujours en production, le groupe est retourné en studio en décembre 2017 pour enregistrer 22 nouveaux titres. La sortie du prochain album est prévue à l’automne 2018 (02/11/18 – Khanti Records / Pias Distribution).

Black Roots was born in 1979 in the area of Saint-Paul, Bristol, England. The band is originally composed of eight “youths” from the Jamaican diaspora. Among them we find 4 singers who guarantee in turn the lead vocal or the chorus, a powerful and rare arrangement! In 1981, their career took off with the event of two “pay what you want” concerts. To be able to independently evolve, they created the label Nubian and produced their first maxi single “Bristol Rock”. They release an album each year for 10 years until they finally broke up in 1993.
In 2004, Makasound again introduces Black Roots to the French audience with the compilation “On the Frontline”. This is love at first sight once more and the band reforms and first appears in France during the festival Zicalizes in 2011. Black Roots return again with “On the Ground” (2012), “Ghetto Feel” (2004) and “Son of a man” (2016). These albums are just as powerful as their previous hits thus proving that Black Roots are always prepared to crumble the walls of the so-called Babylon! Always in production, the band returned to the studio in December 2017 to record 22 new songs. The next album’s release is scheduled for Autumn 2018. (02/11/18 – Khanti Records / Pias Distribution).
